We spend 10 years emailing !!!

Checking e-mails at work can take off almost ten years of your working life, according to a new research.

E-mail addiction

People are so addicted to the e-mail system that they can't control the urge to log on.

According to the study by Scottish IT training company, responding to an e-mail every five minutes clocks up a staggering 8.5 hours a week given the "recovery" time required after each interruption - adding up to 9.7 years of a working life.

Work suffers

The problem lies in an inability to switch between e-mailing and work. "Stopping to check e-mail ten times a day requires a lot of brain switching so when it comes to getting sidetracked, e-mail is a major culprit," says experts.

Compulsive disorder

Experts have warned of a growing addiction to technology. "There are some people who, for instance, get up in the middle of the night and on their way to the toilet have to stop off to check their e-mail.

"Like any addiction, it is the subconscious looking for something that will settle their anxiety and give them something to do," said Dr Hussey, psychologist.

"The problem with e-mail addiction is that, unlike with alcohol or gambling, you cannot remove the need to use a computer and communicate via e-mail from a person's working life," he added.

'Golden ratios' for female facial beauty...

A new study has helped researchers from the university of California discover “golden ratios”
For female facial beauty.

They have found that the distance between a woman's eyes and the distance between her eyes and her mouth are key factors in determining how attractive she is to others.

They successfully identified the optimal relation between the eyes, the mouth and the edge of the face for individual beauty.
In four separate experiments, the researchers asked university students to make paired comparisons of attractiveness between female faces with identical facial features but different eye-mouth distances and different distances between the eyes.
They found two 'golden ratios,' one for length and one for width. Female faces were judged more attractive when the vertical distance between their eyes and the mouth was approximately 36 percent of the face's length, and the horizontal distance between their eyes was approximately 46 percent of the face's width.
These proportions correspond with those of an average face.
"People have tried and failed to find these ratios since antiquity. The ancient Greeks found what they believed was a ''golden ratio'' - also known as ''phi'' or the ''divine proportion'' - and used it in their architecture and art,"
Some even suggest that Leonardo Da Vinci used the golden ratio when painting his ''Mona Lisa.'' But there was never any proof that the golden ratio was special. As it turns out, it isn't.
"Instead of phi, we showed that average distances between the eyes, mouth and face contour form the true golden ratios,"
"We already know that different facial features make a female face attractive - large eyes, for example, or full lips."
"Our study conclusively proves that the structure of faces - the relation between our face contour and the eyes, mouth and nose - also contributes to our perception of facial attractiveness. Our finding also explains why sometimes an attractive person looks unattractive or vice versa after a haircut, because hairdos change the ratios," Experts added.

Men find less powerful women more attractive !!!

A new study has proved that men prefer less powerful women.

In the study, led by Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, psychologists showed positioning of people's photos played a vital role in determining how attractive and powerful he/she is perceived to be by the opposite sex.

According to lead researchers Brian Meier and Sarah Dionne, a powerful person is perceived as one, who stays at the top while less powerful are below.

So when people think of power differences, they literally think of spatial differences too.

During the study, researchers recruited 29 men and 50 women aged 19 were asked to look at images of people and rate their attractiveness on a scale of 1-750.

The participants were shown, in a random order, all of the images and advised that they would see images repeated during the study. Each image was both seen and rated twice. The only difference between the two viewings of each image was that image position was adjusted.

For example, if an image was first viewed on the bottom of the screen, it would later appear on the top.

Dating your ex's best friend ??

The rule is that you shouldn't date your ex-boyfriend's best friend! But what if you really, really like him and he likes you too! Dating your former boyfriend's best friend is really dependent on how you and your ex handle it!

Be very sure of your feelings. Take some time to sit down and examine exactly what it is you feel about him. If it's just a time pass affair with an attractive guy that you're searching for, find someone else.

Dating your ex's friend can generate too much anguish for everyone concerned. This will definitely cause a dent in their friendship. And it doesn't matter if your ex is seeing another woman; she isn't your best friend, is she?

Read between the lines

If you are still on good terms with your ex, let him know about your feelings! If he gives you his blessings, go for it. However, if your ex says something like, 'Yeah, go ahead, I don't care', they may actually be thinking, 'Why did you have to find my best friend to date in the whole wide world? What's wrong with you? Are you trying to make me jealous? Or has this been going on behind my back?'

No matter how much you try to convince him otherwise, suspicion will linger.

Moment of truth

Though your decision should not be dependent on your ex's approval, this new relationship will definitely put a strain in their relationship. And one way to judge if you should go ahead with this relationship, is to put yourself in your ex's shoes! If you feel the anguish is not worth the effort, forget about it!

Finally, if nothing works out, don't get too worked up. After all, there are many fish in the sea!

How to plant confidence in your children!!!!!

Having confidence in one self is not an easy thing that can be done over night, and restoring confidence to a timid introvert person needs a great effort, and so parents should start building self confidence in their children since an early age so they would grow having their own powerful, confident personalities.

Some steps to help parents building confidence in their children’s hearts:

1-Praise your children in front of others but within limits as in praising them for finishing their homework, or accomplishing something successfully.

2-Don’t make them criticize themselves, but help them have faith in what they do.

3-Treat them respectfully, say “please” when asking them to do something and “thank you” when they do it.

4-Treat them as kids and let them enjoy their childhood but teach them to be independent.

5-Help them take their own decisions and don’t impose yours, give them the freedom of choice and let them bear the consequences of their choice, ask them their opinion and ask for it in a certain issue.

6-Teach them the skills of expressing their opinions and presentation, how to talk and how to express themselves in front of anybody.

Teach them how to have principles of their own as well as duties, how to go by them and stick to them.

7-Make them feel they’re important and that they are gifted.

8-Answer all their questions, keep your promises, and explain why you took certain decisions.

9-Help them making friends as children nowadays don’t know how to pick friends. Make them feel special and that they have God-given talents or abilities.

10-Tell them stories from their childhood, through which you can teach them some fundamental principles such as not to lie…etc..

11-Teach them how to refuse and how to say “no” against anything wrong, teach them how to defend themselves and their bodies.

12-Give them enough money.

13-Apologize for any obvious wrong doing from your part .

14-Don’t threaten them at all, but talk to them till they become convinced.

15-Share their ambitions and encourage them to accomplish their dreams.

16-Teach them how to face failure.

17-Hold them close, this helps them trust themselves.

18-Tell them you love them.

Viagra's potential discovered by accident !!!

Did you know Viagra was actually designed to treat angina, a heart condition? However, the drug coincidently showed promise in treating impotency,
Viagra's impotency potential was discovered by accident.

say experts. While most of the drugs are designed for a specific purpose, their potential, they say, can be discovered only when we take them. For instance, Ventolin inhalers used for treating asthma have also been found to prevent premature labour; and arsenic, a notorious poison. It is also making a comeback as a treatment for leukaemia.

In addition, popular impotency drug Viagra is not used for what it was originally intended. It was originally tested as UK92480, a new treatment for angina, a heart condition that constricts the vessels that supply the heart with blood. However, the trials failed to show promise. But later the study participants reported an unusual side effect - lots of erections.

"What was amazing about this study was that we saw a restoration of the erectile response. Now we were on to something which could only be described as special," BBC News quoted Pfizer senior scientist Chris Wayman as saying.

Facebook taps McAfee to shield users from attacks..

Facebook, the world's No. 1 social networking site, which has been a target of several high-profile cyber attacks in the past year, is giving away security software from McAfee Inc to protect its users.
Facebook said on Tuesday its 350 million users can download a free six-month trial of McAfee's Internet Security Suite, which protects computer users from viruses and other Internet threats.
Facebook and McAfee, the No. 2 maker of security software, have also co-developed a separate online tool that will scan and clean the computers of Facebook users which show signs of having fallen prey to an online attack.

Facebook said the scanning tool is being offered to its users at no charge. And it will not receive any revenue from McAfee if Facebook users purchase the McAfee Internet Security Suite software following the six-month trial.

Representatives of the two companies said in an interview that McAfee would advertise on Facebook as part of the partnership.
Facebook -- along with other social networking services such as Twitter and News Corp's MySpace -- are among the most popular targets for hackers and cyber criminals.

Criminals prey upon a false sense of security among their users who believe that these "walled gardens" of the Internet are immune from attack.

The Koobface virus targets Facebook users, tricking them into clicking on links contained in spam messages and then takes over the victim's PC. Hackers seek to take control of infected PCs for identity theft, spamming and other mischief.
According to Facebook representatives, less than 1 percent of its users have been impacted by any kind of security issue.

"We feel like we've done a great job in protecting our network and accounts on Facebook, but we're always looking at ways we can do better," said Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt.
The new scanning tool is available immediately for English-language users of Facebook, with versions for other languages coming soon.
Facebook users in the United States, Britain, France and eight other countries have immediately access to the free version of McAfee Internet Security Suite, with additional countries to come through the first three months of the year.

Funk up your sari blouse.....

The season of weddings is going to start! As you and your girls hop onto the bridal bandwagon and get super excited about clothes, clothes and more clothes you might just give a miss to a little something that will either make or break your outfit.

The right blouse is as important as trying to find that one outfit that will make you look like a princess. So, find the best blouse for you: Know your body, Do you want to flaunt your assets or want to minimise an ample bosom? This is the first concern of every woman.

According to one top designer , "You must keep the colour, fabric, cut and embroidery in mind for a blouse that will give you the shape that you desire." For the well-endowed woman, "If you want to minimise a big chest, get a nice low V (but not too low depending on your comfort level) and use a darker shade on your chest and lighter shade on the sleeves. Do not cover your neck with fabrics because this will only add to the bulk."

"It is very important to wear a good bra. Also, shift the emphasis away from the chest by using darker shades for your blouse and a brighter shade for the rest of your ensemble. Also, do not use too much embroidery on your chest area and the way you drape your sari or dupatta will add or reduce the bulk. A well-endowed woman must be happy about her bosom and celebrate what she’s got!"

Using a light fabric like georgette or chiffon or satin-silk on the chest area and a heavier fabric like velvet on the sleeves or the lining will make the chest area appear slimmer. Shift the focus to your back with a sexy cut and tie-up strings with colourful dogris. Puff sleeves with interesting detailing offer the right feminine touch.

For the slim woman who wants to look voluptuous.

Designers votes for cups, This implies a nice push-up bra or inbuilt cups in your blouse.
You can design your blouse with exquisite embroidery on the chest area and use a bright shade contrasting with the muted shades of the rest of your ensemble.

Stitch or design a bandhgala blouse with in-cut sleeves and show it off by elegantly draping the dupatta or pallu around your hand rather than across your chest.
Matching is passé Showcasing your creativity is the trend these days; so mix and match works best! Therefore, even if you go for the blouse first and decide on the right sari or lehenga later, it’s perfectly fine.

" cholis are hot sellers this season . Everyone wants one stellar choli that can be paired with ten different saris and lehengas. We've mixed embroideries like bandhini and brocade to create interesting prints and teamed different fabrics in one choli so that it looks interesting. I don't like matching the sari with the blouse." says one big designer.

So, imagine you have an emerald green blouse. Now think of all the colours you can mix it with – pink, black, beige, yellow, creams, gold… keep those creative juices flowing and you'll hit the style jackpot.

Loneliness can be 'infectious'""""

It can spread among groups of people and women are more likely than men to become "infected," according to researchers at the University of Chicago, Using data from a large-scale study, they found lonely people tend to transmit their sad feelings to those around them, which eventually led to them being isolated from society.
"We detected an extraordinary pattern of contagion that leads people to be moved to the edge of the social network when they become lonely," said a leading U.S. expert on loneliness.

Before losing their friends, lonely people transmit feelings of loneliness to their remaining friends, who also become lonely.
"On the periphery people have fewer friends, yet their loneliness leads them to losing the few ties they have left," said expert. "These reinforcing effects mean that our social fabric can fray at the edges, like a yarn that comes loose at the end of a crocheted sweater," he added.

Because loneliness is associated with mental and physical diseases that can shorten life, it is important for people to recognize loneliness and help those affected before they move away to the edges.
For the study, the team examined records of the Framingham Heart Study, which originally studied the risks of cardiovascular disease for more than 5,000 people since 1948.

The study has since been expanded, and its second generation, which includes another 5,124 people, was the focus of the loneliness research. The study showed that as people become lonely, they become less trustful of others, and a cycle develops that makes it harder for them to form friendships.

Societies seem to develop a natural tendency to shed these lonely people, something that is mirrored in tests of monkeys, , adding that this makes it all the more important to recognize loneliness and deal with it before it spreads.

Hairstyle Secrets!!!!!

Get your best haircolor : Use your current color (even if it's dyed) as a gauge when selecting your formula — and never lighten or darken your hair more than two shades at one time.

Eat for healthy hair! The best follicle fuel? Omega-3 fatty acids (found in cold-water fish like salmon) and protein (think nuts and cheese), says Oz Garcia, a nutritionist in New York City.

Go glam and gorgeous. A combination of blow-drying and air-drying creates a great, balanced style. Use a little straightening balm and blow-dry heavier bangs so they lie straight.

If you straighten your curly hair, a silicone serum is the key to prolonging the straight look. Lightly apply a dime-size amount, focusing mostly on the ends, after you blow-dry and flatiron hair straight.

Women with Jolie-like-pout look younger```````

Women, who have full, firm lips like those of Angelina Jolie’s, look much younger than they really are, a study has revealed.
Women with full lips like Jolie’s look younger.
Jolie’s lips have been voted the most desirable in the world in a poll where women longed to look like the beautiful actress. Researchers believe that even if a woman gets wrinkles and her hair loses its sheen and begins to grey, fuller lips can save the day.

The experts also found why lips become shrivelled or stay firm is mainly determined by genes not just external causes like sun damage. The findings of the Unilever study at seven world universities appear to confirm that a full pout is a key sign of sexual allure, reports .

Previous studies have also determined facial attractiveness is a combination of large eyes and full lips as well as the relationship between the face contour and the eyes, mouth and nose. Lip shrinkage usually begins between the ages of 30 and 40

Beware! Watching TV cuts short your life!!!!!

For every hour of TV viewing, your risk of dying early from heart disease rises by 18%, says a new comprehensive study of sedentary lifestyle.

Beware, couch time is shortening your life! The study by Australian researchers shows that each hour of TV viewing also increases your risk of dying from cancer by nine per cent. Overall, each hour spent in front of TV increases your risk of death by 11 per cent. Not only watching TV, but also doing sedentary jobs - sitting at the desk or in front of a computer - is equally dangerous for your health, according to the study.

As part of their study, the Australian researchers chose 8,800 people - 3,846 men and 4,954 women above 25 years of age - with no cardiovascular problems. They grouped them into three categories on the basis of their television-viewing habits - those who watched TV less than two hours a day, those who watched it between two and four hours, and those who watched more than four hours.

During the next six years, 284 of them died - 87 from cardiovascular disease and 125 from cancer. The researchers found that there was modest link between cancer deaths and television viewing. But the link between the time spent watching television and cardiovascular deaths was very direct and strong.

Famous sex blogger is a scientist!!!!!

One of the best-kept literary secrets of the decade has finally been revealed after a 34-year-old British scientist claimed that she was the writer masquerading as call girl Belle de Jour.
Dr Brooke Magnanti, the author behind the bestselling books detailing her secret life as a prostitute, has revealed her identity , claiming that anonymity had become "no fun".

Magnanti is a respected specialist in developmental neurotoxicology and cancer epidemiology in a hospital research group in Bristol.

Speculation about the author's identity has been rife for six long years. Belle is the blogger who was never busted, though nearly every media organisation in Britain has thrown its resources at outing her.
A professor and "literary detective" called Don Foster claimed in The Times that she was a Mancunian novelist called Sarah Champion. And so the rumour went on, for years.
Six years ago, in the final stages of her PhD thesis at Sheffield University, she ran out of money and turned to prostitution through a London escort agency, charging some £30 an hour.

An experienced science blogger, she began writing about her experiences in a web diary that was adapted into books. Her eye-popping online Diary of a London Call Girl has fascinated millions of readers worldwide. And adapted into a television series where her character was played by British actress Billie Piper.
"I was getting ready to submit my thesis. I saved up a bit of money. I thought, I'll just move to London, because that's where the jobs are, and I'll see what happens. I could not find a professional job in my chosen field because I did not have my PhD yet.
"I didn't have a lot of spare time on my hands because I was still making corrections and preparing for the viva; and I got through my savings a lot faster than I thought I would," Magnanti told columnist 'India Knight'.
In London, she found an escort agency and started her secret life. "I did have another job at one point, as a computer programmer, but I kept up with my other work because it was so much more enjoyable."

There has been huge speculation about Belle's real identity, including a theory that she was a well-known author because of the quality of her writing. The blog and books were criticised for suggesting prostitution could be glamorous.

However, the scientist has no regrets about her 14 months as a prostitute. "I've felt worse about my writing than I ever have about sex for money. Anonymity had become 'no fun', however: 'I couldn't even go to my own book launch party," she was quoted as saying.

Ben Kingsley likes being directed by women??

Oscar-winning veteran actor Ben Kingsley, who will be seen in Bollywood director Leena Yadav's crime thriller "Teen Patti" as a narrator."It's a very, very small part.I keep appearing in little scenes in the film as a storyteller,"says kinglsey. "Female directors see things that guys miss. I respond well to female direction.

The ego is in a different place. They are focussed on fundamental things like narrative and human behaviour rather than issues that may be distorted by the male ego," the Hollywood actor said . Yadav is the third woman to direct Kingsley and it seems as if he's enjoying working with them. "I just did two other films with female directors. I like being directed by females.

They bring a different eye through the camera and an unusual perspective," Kingsley told . The actor, known for his astonishing performance in "Gandhi" says, "It was an opportunity to work with an Indian crew again after 'Gandhi'.

It was an opportunity to work with Mr. Bachchan, who is an icon in his own field. It's interesting to mix cultures in a film to see how different people from different backgrounds can be so very synchronized and work together.

In "Teen Patti", We worked very intensely, We hit a very quick working rhythm," Kingsley told. He will next be seen in Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island" that is set to release in Feb.

Secrets of female beauty revealed!

Marriage wards off blues, just don't end it.

Study found that getting married, compared to not getting married, was good for the mental health of both genders, not just women, as previous studies had found.
The study, however, did find that men are less likely to become depressed in their first marriage than women, a factor was probably linked to the traditional gender roles at home, as other WMH surveys have shown that as women get better educated, depression rates tend to fall.

The other gender difference the study found is that getting married reduces risk of substance use disorders more for women than for men. This may be explained by the fact that women are usually the primary caregiver for young children.

Mushrooms can treat cancer.

Researchers at the University of Nottingham have discovered how a promising cancer drug, first discovered in a mushroom commonly used in Chinese medicine, works. Dr Cornelia de Moor of The University of Nottingham and her team have investigated the drug called cordycepin, which was originally extracted from a rare kind of wild mushroom called cordyceps and is now prepared from a cultivated form. the discovery will open up the possibility of investigating the range of different cancers that could be treated with cordycepin. they have also developed a very effective method that can be used to test new, more efficient or more stable versions of the drug in the Petri dish. This is a great advantage as it will allow them to rule out any non-runners before anyone considers testing them in animals.
